Jammu, Aug 27 (PTI) A bovine smuggling bid was foiled in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district today and 14 animals were rescued, police said.

A police party during routine checking at a highway signalled a truck to stop at the Tapyal area, a police officer said.

The driver, on seeing them, tried to escape from the spot. The police chased him and later he abandoned the vehicle at the Jatwal area.

During checking, 14 bovines were found laden inside the vehicle which were being transported illegally, he said, adding that all the animals were rescued.

A case has been registered at police station Ghagwal in this regard and an investigation is underway.
