DC orders magisterial inquiry to probe matter

EARTH NEWS SERVICE |2ad4a989-4203-43f5-8cd9-d1b0e25a7ad3Srinagar, Jan 14 |16: Violent protests erupted in some parts of Civil Lines area of city after a mutilated body of an Engineering student Owais Bashir Malik was found near Railway Track in Humhama area on Thursday morning. Bashir Ahmed Malik the father of the deceased youth told that his son had left home at around 5 in the evening on Tuesday. “Till 6:30 he was in touch with us but later on his cell phone came switched off. We filed a missing report in Police Station Humhama and today (Thursday) his mutilated body was found near Railway Track,” he said adding that he doesn’t know why his son was murdered and who the killers are. As soon as the news of Malik’s death spread in the area, people, including women, came out protesting on the streets in Peerbagh, Hyderpora and Humhama and clashed with police. They demanded immediate probe into the murder. Some protesters alleged that Owais was murdered by Army in custody at Rangreth, a charge denied by Badamibagh based spokesperson who termed the allegations baseless. Amid shutdown people mostly youth resorted to intense stone-pelting prompting police to burst tear-smoke shells. The clashes disrupted traffic on the roads. Policemen as well as protesters suffered injuries during the clashes. The body of the deceased youth was laid to rest at Goripora Sanat Nagar. Hundreds of mourners participated in his last rites. Taking cognizance of the crime police registered a case FIR vide number 09/2016 under section 302 RPC in Police Station Budgam. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone ordered a magisterial enquiry into the incident. “We have asked Additional District Magistrate, Hamidullah Mir, to look into circumstances of the youth’s death and come with a report within one month,” he said.
