Leh, Sept 19: Taking note of the reluctance among the artisans enrolled for Vishwakarma Scheme to attend the training, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve has asked the officers to ensure publicity of the scheme to mobilize more artisans and see to it that their number should increase significantly.

He said this while chairing a meeting to review the implementation of Vishwakarma Scheme in Leh district at the VC room of DC office Leh, the previous day.

During the meeting, a presentation was made on the achievement of Vishwakarma scheme in different trades by General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC) Leh.

It was informed that at Stage I, a total of 2059 cases were received, where 1925 cases were recommended and at Stage II, 1925 cases were received where 1923 were recommended further. At ministry level, Stage III, out of 1925 cases, 1466 were recommended.

It was also informed that a total of 435 artisans were trained in different trades under the scheme at different training centers, which consist of 240 tailors, 88 basket makers, 73 carpenters and 34 masons.

Superintendent ITI Thinles Nurboo, informed that the stipends were distributed among the trained artisans whereas the kits were not provided until now. He also informs that the artisans do their enrollment but they do not attend the training citing the reason as summer working period.

Joint Director MSME G. Velladurai, informs the DC that tailors and maisons are not visible at Stage III ministry level whereas other trades are visible and are processed immediately. He also informed that a letter has been sent at secretary level to ministry to resolve the issue.

DC Leh stressed on completion of pending cases and instructed the BDOs and Panchayat Secretaries to finalize the cases by the week end. He instructed DIC to focus on publicity of the scheme to mobilize more artisans into the scheme. He also directed the officials to target and cover all the artisans and that the number should increase significantly by the next meeting.

The meeting was attended by General Manager DIC Leh, Superintendent ITI Leh, Lead District Manager Tsering Wangmo and other officials from different departments. Joint Director MSME G Velladurai, DPO Leh Junaid Amin and other officers and officials attended the meeting through VC.
