Kargil, Sept 15: The Kargil campus of University of Ladakh (UoL) hosted a significant visit from Dr. Jagvir Singh, Scientist G and Adviser at the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India.
Dr. Singh’s visit highlighted the growing collaboration between academic institutions and the scientific community, bringing attention to advancements in earth science research and its implications for national security and environmental resilience.
Dr. Singh was warmly welcomed in a traditional khatak ceremony and was introduced by Dr. Mohd Taqi, who emphasized the importance of his visit.
During his keynote address, Dr. Singh spoke about India’s pioneering role in meteorological and climate services, particularly in areas like disaster preparedness and weather forecasting. He shared an anecdote from a military operation in Drass, where accurate weather forecasting played a crucial role in strategy and troop movement, demonstrating the real-world applications of earth science.
The session concluded with interactive discussions between Dr. Singh and the university faculty, focusing on climate change’s impacts in Ladakh. Dr. Singh expressed optimism about future collaborations between the university and research organizations, underscoring the institution’s potential to drive ground breaking research.
