Leh, Sept 15: Deputy Commissioner of Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, convened a District Skill Committee (DSC) meeting on September 13 at the DC Office to review the progress of the District Skill Development Plans for the year 2024-25. The meeting focused on improving the quality and monitoring of skill training programs, career counseling, and self-employment initiatives.

During the meeting, the Member Secretary of the Skill Committee provided an overview of the various skill development programs being implemented in the district, particularly those under the National Education Policy (NEP). He highlighted that skill training is being imparted in colleges, teaching a wide range of skills to students. He proposed that the quality of these trainings be closely monitored by the District Skill Committee and suggested that the implementing departments take responsibility for regular evaluation.

Key discussions included enhancing career counseling services, promoting self-employment among trainees, and ensuring effective training and capacity-building efforts across the district. Deputy Commissioner Sukhadeve underscored the importance of implementing career counseling initiatives in Leh, in coordination with the Technical Education and Skill Development Department and the Employment Department, to guide students towards career opportunities.

DC Leh also expressed concerns regarding the lack of a proper system to track skill development trainings across various departments. He directed the committee to establish a centralized monitoring system where all training data could be uploaded and updated on a monthly basis. This, he said, would provide better oversight for the District Skill Committee.

In addition, the District Social Welfare Officer suggested the introduction of specialized skill development programs for individuals with disabilities and proposed submitting a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the same.

The meeting was attended by key officials including the Chief Planning Officer, General Manager of the District Industries Centre (DIC), Deputy Director of Employment Leh, and other members of the District Skill Committee. The discussions highlighted the district’s commitment to enhancing skill development and career opportunities for its residents.
