Leh, Sept 12: A number of delegations called on Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lt Governor’s Secretariat on Thursday and briefed him of their issues and problems.
A delegation led by the Director of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research Institute, Bhimtal, Dr Pramod Kumar Pandey apprised the LG of the potential of fisheries and aquaculture in Ladakh, especially trout fishing due to its climactic conditions.
He informed the LG about the roadmap prepared by them for developing fisheries and aquaculture in Ladakh. He also highlighted the need to build hatcheries in at least three areas of Ladakh to reduce dependency on seeds from outside Ladakh.
The LG informed the delegates about the UT Administration’s plan to develop fish farms in different areas of Ladakh to promote it as a tourist spot. He asked Dr Pramod to prepare a draft Trout Development Policy for Ladakh by integrating new technologies and renewable energy provisions so that UT Administration can follow it up for further necessary actions.
A delegation from Airports Authority of India (AAI) led by In-Charge, New Terminal Building, KBR Airport Leh, Vinayagamoorthy S informed the LG that Uma Shankar would take over as the new In-Charge of the New Terminal Building of the Airport at Leh.
He also apprised the LG of the progress of the ongoing works at the New Terminal Building at Airport Leh and the plan to construct ornamental wall as a part of the compound wall.
The LG inquired about the logic behind the construction of the ornamental wall, its total length, the need to clear and level the ground, and the need to remove all dirt at the Leh Airport. He also asked the AAI officials to expedite the ongoing work at the New Terminal Building at the earliest.
Ali Akbar, a resident of Shimsha, Kargil apprised the LG of the issues faced by him due to the construction of the Shimsha link road. He requested the LG for his intervention in changing the alignment of the road or providing an alternate land for the construction of the house if the realignment of the link road is not possible.
The LG asked Deputy Commissioner, Kargil to examine the matter and go strictly by the Court’s order and give a decision in this regard at the earliest.
