Leh, Sept 11: The Social & Tribal Welfare Department and the Child Protection Society of UT Ladakh hosted an Orientation Cum Training Programme for the newly appointed Chairpersons and Members of the Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board for Leh and Kargil. The event took place at the Mission Vatsalya Office in Agling Leh.
The training session was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, as amended in 2021, and the Ladakh Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Model Rules 2024. The focus was on ensuring that the attendees, including those from Kargil who joined online, were well-versed in the legal and procedural frameworks aimed at safeguarding children’s rights and welfare.
Abdul Rahim, Program Manager of the Child Protection Society, emphasized the crucial aspects of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015. His presentation highlighted the importance of adhering to the Act to protect and rehabilitate children in need. Rahim also covered the roles and functions of the Child Welfare Committee and the Juvenile Justice Board.
In addition, Sonam Chosdon, Program Manager at the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA), provided a comprehensive overview of the adoption regulations introduced in 2022. Her detailed explanation of the adoption process was aimed at equipping participants with a thorough understanding of the legal requirements and procedures involved.
The session concluded with a practical demonstration of the Mission Vatsalya Portal, designed to aid participants in effectively navigating and utilizing the platform for child protection and welfare services.
The training underscores the commitment of the UT Ladakh administration to reinforce child protection mechanisms and ensure that all stakeholders are equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools to uphold the rights and welfare of children in the region.
