Leh, Sept 10: The annual Kisan Mela Cum Fruit Exhibition, hosted by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, was a resounding success at the Horticulture Complex, Agling, Leh. The event was graced by Hon’ble Chairman/CEC LAHDC, Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, who served as the Chief Guest, and Hon’ble Executive Councillor for Horticulture, Ghulam Mehdi, as the Guest of Honour. Tsewang Phuntsog, Director of Horticulture UT Ladakh, also attended the event.

The exhibition showcased an impressive array of horticultural produce, featuring diverse varieties of Apples, Chuli (a local fruit), Watermelons, and a vivid display of flowers. The exhibits highlighted the rich horticultural heritage of the region, showcasing the exceptional results achieved by local farmers. Over 200 farmers participated in the event, which featured around 450 exhibits of fruits, flowers, and value-added products.

In his address, Chief Executive Councillor Adv. Tashi Gyalson emphasized the importance of such events in demonstrating the progress and performance of local farmers. He stressed the need for ongoing collaboration between farmers and various departments to ensure they receive adequate support and equipment. Gyalson encouraged farmers to actively engage with the resources offered by the Administration and LAHDC, noting that the council provides subsidies for horticulture tools to support and enhance agricultural practices. He also expressed a desire to extend these events to more remote regions, such as Sham, Chamgthang, and Rong, to raise awareness about agricultural advancements. Gyalson commended the department for successfully organizing the event and facilitating interaction between farmers and scientists.

Hon’ble Executive Councillor Ghulam Mehdi highlighted the benefits of modern farming technologies and the necessity of innovation in horticulture. He underscored the importance of integrating new technologies and methods to boost productivity and support the region’s farmers.
