Kargil, Sept 06: The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar brought the campus to life with its exhilarating two-day Intramural Sports Competition, showcasing the athletic prowess of its students across a range of track and field events.

The competition, held from September 5-6, featured a lineup of events including 100 Meter and 200 Meter sprints, Shot Put, Javelin Throw, and Discus Throw in both men’s and women’s categories. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, culminating in a high-energy finale today.

In the men’s Discus Throw, Jigmet Akar, a third-semester student, took the top spot, while Chemat Namgyal from the fifth semester and first-semester student Tsering Lundup secured the second and third positions respectively. For the women, Padma Youdon from the third semester clinched the first place, with Falzang Angmo and Zafina Akhter, both from the fifth semester, earning second and third places.

The Shot Put events highlighted emerging talents, with Tsering Lundup winning the men’s category, followed by Jigmet Akar and Rigzin Chosfail, both of the first semester. Khalida Akhtar from the fifth semester dominated the women’s Shot Put, with Zafina Akhter and Sonam Chosdon, from the fifth and first semesters, finishing second and third.

In Javelin Throw, Tsering Lundup once again showcased his skills, claiming first place in the men’s event. Chemat Namgyal and Jigmet Akar secured second and third positions. For the women, Zahida Banoo from the fifth semester achieved first place, with Stanzin Choskit and Falzang Angmo rounding out the top three.

The sprint races on the second day added to the competition’s excitement. Jigmet Akar emerged victorious in the 100 Meter men’s race, with Chemat Namgyal and Tsering Lundup following. Tsewang Lahmo from the first semester won the women’s 100 Meter race, with Tsering Dolma and Sonam Chosdon taking second and third places. In the 200 Meter races, Akar and Namgyal continued their winning streaks, while Stanzin Zomskit, Rehana Batool, and Rigzen Wangmo excelled in the women’s race.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony where winners were honored with trophies and prizes. Dr. Abid Hussain, the Officiating Principal of GDC Zanskar, commended the students for their exceptional performance and sportsmanship. The closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Jamphel Sheyan, who expressed gratitude to everyone involved.
