Leh, Sept 01: In a significant engagement aimed at fostering regional development, a delegation from ICICI Bank, led by Sandeep Sharma, Zonal Head for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, met with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat today. The meeting was also attended by Dr Laltinkhuma Franklin, IAS, Secretary to the HLG.
Sharma extended his congratulations to the Lieutenant Governor on the recent administrative reorganization of Ladakh, which saw the creation of five new districts within the Union Territory. Highlighting ICICI Bank’s ongoing commitment to Ladakh, Sharma pointed out that the bank currently operates four branches in the region, with an impressive 90% of its staff drawn from local communities. He further expressed the bank’s intention to broaden its footprint by establishing additional branches in Ladakh.
In a move to enhance financial security and awareness, ICICI Bank has launched a Fraud Prevention Campaign, which is being aired in local languages on Doordarshan and All India Radio in Leh. Sharma also announced plans for a collaborative fraud awareness session with the Reserve Bank of India’s Jammu Branch. He proposed a new financial awareness program specifically targeting government employees in the Union Territory.
In response to the bank’s initiatives, the Lieutenant Governor instructed Dr Laltinkhuma Franklin to coordinate with the Advisor to the HLG to facilitate a follow-up meeting with ICICI Bank representatives. This meeting will focus on discussing potential branch expansions and exploring local employment opportunities.
This engagement highlights ICICI Bank’s dedication to supporting economic development and enhancing financial services in Ladakh, reflecting the bank’s commitment to contributing to the region’s growth and stability.
