Leh, Aug 28: In observance of International Youth Day, Government Degree College Khaltse, in collaboration with the J&K AIDS Control Society, organized an AIDS awareness rally on August 28. The event, aimed at raising public consciousness about AIDS, began at the college campus and wound its way through the main market of Khaltse, drawing attention from the local community.
Students and faculty from the college participated in the rally, enthusiastically chanting slogans to educate the public on the critical importance of AIDS awareness and prevention. Their voices echoed through the streets, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Following the rally, the college hosted a poster-making competition centered on the same theme. Students from various semesters participated with great enthusiasm, creating visually compelling and informative posters that highlighted key messages about AIDS prevention, stigma reduction, and the importance of testing and treatment. The competition was organized by the college’s Red Ribbon Club, which also ensured that all necessary materials were provided to the participants.
The event culminated in a prize distribution ceremony, where certificates were awarded to all participants, and special recognition was given to the top three winners. Sonam Yangdol, Mepham Dolker, and Stanzin Chorol, all from the third semester, secured the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, respectively, for their outstanding poster designs.
Director of Physical Education and Sports, Sonam Chosphail, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the participants and acknowledged their efforts in making the event a success. He also extended sincere thanks to Professor Stanzin Yangdol, the principal of the college, for her unwavering support and guidance throughout the event.
The day’s activities not only fostered awareness about AIDS among the youth but also underscored the crucial role that educational institutions can play in promoting public health initiatives.
