Kargil, Aug 27: The 4th Ladakh Taekwondo Training Programme, held at the Indoor Stadium Shargole, came to a triumphant close this weekend. The seven-day intensive camp, organized by the Shargole Taekwondo Association in collaboration with the Ladakh Taekwondo Association and the Kargil Taekwondo Association, saw participation from over 84 students from various schools across the region.
This year’s training programme was highlighted by the participation of Tashi Tundup, a State Awardee and International Taekwondo Player. Tundup’s expert guidance and dedication left a lasting impact on the young athletes, providing them with advanced Taekwondo techniques and valuable experience.
The closing ceremony was graced by Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, who served as the Chief Guest. Zubdavi praised Tundup’s commitment to fostering Taekwondo talent in the region and acknowledged the athlete’s contribution to the community. He reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing sports infrastructure and supporting athletes in Ladakh.
“Taekwondo has brought immense pride to Ladakh at both national and international levels. Despite our small population, we have produced many accomplished athletes, including international players and state awardees. The achievements in this Olympic sport are a testament to the potential within our community,” Zubdavi said. He also announced plans to engage with sports associations to develop strategies for furthering sports in the region.
Anayat Ali Shotopa, General Secretary of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, also took the stage to reflect on the association’s journey since its inception in 1999. “The Ladakh Taekwondo Association is proud to be the first sports organization in the region with over 100 Black Belts, including 40 women, dozens of international and national players, and several prestigious awards. This is a remarkable achievement for our organization,” Shotopa noted.
During the ceremony, Zubdavi distributed certificates and mementos to participants and officials in recognition of their dedication and hard work. The Ladakh Taekwondo Association also honored Tashi Tundup’s mother for her invaluable support in nurturing such a distinguished athlete.
In a gesture of goodwill, Mohd Ali Chandan, President of the BJP Kargil and President of the Shargole Taekwondo Association, presented a traditional Khatak to Zubdavi on behalf of all sports associations in Ladakh, congratulating him on his new role.
