Kargil, Aug 26: In a profound display of devotion and communal spirit, thousands gathered in Kargil Town today to observe Arbaeen-e-Hussaini, honoring the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his 72 companions who fell in the historic Battle of Karbala. The event, marked by solemn mourning processions, was organized under the banners of Jamiyat Ullama Isna Ashriya Kargil Ladakh and Imam Khomenie Memorial Trust Kargil.

The processions, which snaked through the town, culminated at Inqilab Manzil Kargil and Hussaini Park Kargil. Here, participants engaged in the recitation of Ziyarat-e-Arbaeen and listened to insightful sermons. Speakers at the gatherings drew meaningful parallels between the sacrifices of Karbala and modern-day struggles for justice, underlining the continued relevance of Imam Hussain’s legacy.

Amidst the religious observance, Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, President of JUIAK Ladakh, addressed the crowd regarding recent administrative changes. He welcomed the announcement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the creation of five new districts in Ladakh but expressed disappointment over the exclusion of Sankoo and Shakar Chiktan. Sheikh Nazir argued that these areas, with their substantial populations and longstanding demands for district status, deserved consideration in the new administrative framework.

The local administration was commended for its efforts in ensuring the smooth conduct of the processions. They provided essential services including security, water facilities, cleanliness, and health camps. Additionally, various organizations set up Sabeels—refreshment stations—along the procession routes, highlighting the community’s commitment to service and support.

Arbaeen, observed on the 20th day of Safar, commemorates the 40th day following Imam Hussain’s martyrdom and remains a global symbol of sacrifice and steadfastness. Today’s observance in Kargil was a testament to the enduring impact of Imam Hussain’s message and the unwavering devotion of his followers.
