Kargil, Aug 21: Department of Urdu, Government Degree College Kargil today held a condolence meeting on the demise of renowned Urdu fiction writer, historian and broadcaster Abdul Ghani Sheikh.
Faculty members and students of Urdu Literature attended the condolence meeting. A two minute silence was observed in the beginning. It was followed by a lecture by Dr Wilayat Ali about the life and literary contribution of late Abdul Ghani Sheikh.
Prof. Nasir Ud Din Khafi from the Department of English highlighted the significant contributions of AG Sheikh and termed him as torchbearer of Urdu writing in Ladakh.
Sheikh passed away on August 20, 2024 at his Srinagar residence at the age of 90 after a brief illness. Dr. Sharif from the Department of Urdu moderated the session and presented a vote of thanks.
Sheikh was a towering figure in Ladakhi literature and Urdu language promotion, leaving behind a legacy that has deeply influenced the region’s cultural fabric. Sheikh’s contributions to literature and broadcasting were vast.
