Empowering Local Artisans: Leh hosts workshop on PM Vishwakarma Scheme

Leh, Aug 21: In a significant initiative to uplift local artisans and small business owners in Leh, the Director of Industries & Commerce of Union Territory (UT) Ladakh, in collaboration with the Union Territory Level Bankers Committee (UTLBC) Ladakh, organized an awareness workshop on the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. The event, held today at the DIC Conference Hall, saw the participation of nearly 60 potential beneficiaries, including artisans and entrepreneurs from the region.
Presiding over the workshop, G M Wani, General Manager of DIC Leh, was joined by key officials such as Saheel Alqband (IEDS), Assistant Director of MSME Jammu & Ladakh, Mohd Zakaria, Functional Manager of DIC Leh, Tsering Wangmo, Lead District Manager (LDM) of Leh, and branch heads of various banks in Leh.
Tsering Morup, Assistant General Manager and Convenor of UTLBC, provided a comprehensive overview of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, particularly focusing on the credit support component. He highlighted the importance of digital payments and encouraged the use of QR codes, urging participants to make the most of the opportunities presented by the scheme. Morup also noted that banks have been instructed to provide substantial credit support to eligible beneficiaries, encouraging them to scale up their businesses.
In his address, G M Wani underscored the significance of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme for local businesses, urging attendees to leverage the loan facilities offered by banks. He emphasized that investing in modern equipment through these loans could enhance business operations and contribute to sustainable growth.
The workshop also featured an engaging discussion among participants, who expressed enthusiasm about the scheme and sought clarifications on various aspects. The interactive session helped resolve doubts and provided a clear roadmap for beneficiaries to access the resources available under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme.
