LG Ladakh holds meeting to discuss establishment State/ District Consumer Commission in Ladakh

Leh 12 :- The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) held a meeting at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat to discuss the establishment of State Disputes Redressal Commission/ State Consumer Commission and District Disputes Redressal Commission/ District Consumer Commission in the Union Territory of Ladakh and Leh and Kargil districts, respectively.

Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Ladakh, Shri Yetindara M. Maralkar, IAS, informed the HLG about the necessity to establish the State and District Commission under the Consumer Protection Act 2029. He also informed that a State and District level Consumer Commission are required to effectively address consumer issues in Ladakh. He apprised the HLG of the requirement of the post of one President and four members for the State Consumer Commission and one President and two members District Consumer Commission in Leh and Kargil. Shri Maralkar, IAS, also highlighted the manpower required for both the State and District Consumer Commissions along with the infrastructure developed for these commissions.

The HLG directed Secretary, Shri Yetindara M. Maralkar, IAS, to modify certain positions within the commissions to reduce liability. He instructed the creation of the post for Registrar instead of Assistant Director in the State Commission, an Assistant Registrar in the District Consumer Commission and a Multitasking Staff position instead of a Chowkidar in both the State and District Consumer Commissions. The HLG emphasised the importance of establishing the Consumer Commissions at the earliest for the benefit of the people of Ladakh.

Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Ladakh, Shri Yetindara M. Maralkar, IAS and Member, District Consumer Commission, Shri Shravan Kumar Nune were present in the meeting.
