Chairman of 5th Finance Commission for UTs calls on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd)

Leh :- The Chairman of Fifth Finance Commission (FC) for Union Territories, Shri Anil Kumar Jha, IAS (Retd.) along with other members of the Finance Commission called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. ChairmanCEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon and Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS, were also in the meeting.

Shri Anil Kumar Jha apprised the HLG of the meeting at Kargil with Chairman, Executive Councillors and Councillors of LAHDC Kargil to assess its functioning and finance-related issues. He informed the HLG about the Finance Commission members’ visit to border villages in Kargil, their inspection of ongoing schemes in Ladakh such as Jal Jeevan Mission, the functioning of schools, etc. He also commended the cleanliness and maintenance of veterinary centres and the waste management segregation plant in Ladakh.

Shri Anil Kumar Jha informed the HLG about the Commission members’ discussion with the stakeholders and public representatives and highlighted the issue of recruitment in Ladakh flagged by them.

The HLG informed about the preparation of the draft Recruitment Rules for various gazetted posts in Ladakh and his meeting with the Chairperson of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to expedite the recruitment process for gazetted posts for the benefit of Ladakhi youth. He also informed about the plan to send girls from Kargil for training at the President’s Body Guard in polo and horse riding. He also asked the Finance Commission for their recommendations to make the Urban Local Bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Ladakh self-sufficient.
