Leh: Breaking barriers towards a healthier future, 58 panchayats in Ladakh have achieved ‘TB Mukt Panchayat’ status under the nationwide initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The announcement comes after rigorous verification processes conducted by the Central TB Division and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, aimed at empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to combat tuberculosis effectively.

Launched on World TB Day in Varanasi on March 24, last year, the ‘TB Mukt Panchayat’ initiative seeks to raise awareness about the challenges posed by tuberculosis and promote active participation by local governing bodies in its elimination.

The initiative also aims to foster healthy competition among panchayats and recognise their contributions to creating TB-free communities. The impressive achievement of 58 panchayats in Ladakh reflects the region’s unwavering commitment to public health and the relentless efforts of its local leaders and health workers.

This milestone is part of a larger national success, with 17,490 Gram Panchayats across India qualifying for the ‘TB Mukt Panchayat’ status for the year 2023. The ‘TB Mukt Panchayat’ initiative is a crucial step towards the goal of a TB-free India, breaking barriers and setting a benchmark for other regions to emulate.

This recognition is not only a testament to the dedication of Ladakh’s Panchayats and Health Department but also an inspiration for continued efforts in TB elimination nationwide.
