Leh, July 09: Asserting that the financial institutions have a significant role to play to ensure the successful implementation of the ambitious PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Administrative Secretary of the Power Development Department, UT Ladakh, Vikram Singh Malik called upon the banks operating in the region to sensitize the consumers in Ladakh about the scheme and ensure they are provided loans at an attractive interest rate.
Malik chaired a meeting regarding the role of Banks (Public Sector/Private) in financing and promoting the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, in the Union Territory of Ladakh, at the Civil Secretariat, Leh on Monday, an official spokesperson said on Tuesday.
During the meeting, a thorough discussion was held regarding the role of the financial institutions, including central and private banks functioning in UT of Ladakh, for their role in financing PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The administrative secretary has directed all the banks to sensitize the consumers about the scheme and for availing the option of availing loan facilities at an attractive interest rate, said the spokesperson.
It may be mentioned here that the UT administration of Ladakh has recently announced its top up subsidy scheme on the central subsidy under the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojna which aims to provide to reduce electricity costs by installing rooftop solar panels, and harnessing solar energy.
The Ladakh Power Development Department has been directed to work in collaboration with the banks to ensure awareness among consumers so that they utilise its benefits.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer PDD, Execuitve Engineer PDD and senior officials of all the major banks.
