Leh, July 09: In a significant initiative to promote mental well-being and tackle substance abuse among adolescents, the District Health Society organized a comprehensive school awareness program at St. Peter’s School in Choglamsar. This event, part of the Mental Health (NCD) outreach programs, brought together experts to educate and empower the student community about mental health challenges and addiction prevention.

Dr. Sajad Hussian, a Clinical Psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Tele-MANAS, served as the keynote speaker for the program. Dr. Hussian addressed the intricate issues associated with adolescents, focusing on mental well-being and the various stressors that impact young individuals. His engaging presentation covered the dynamics of adolescent mental health, including effective stress management techniques and the importance of seeking help for mental health issues.

Phunchok Diskit, a psychologist with the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP), also played a pivotal role in the program. Diskit provided an in-depth explanation of the addiction cycle, discussing the harmful effects of substances like Cool Lip and the importance of the Tobacco Cessation Clinic at SNM Hospital. She highlighted the use of nicotine gum and patches as part of the cessation process and emphasized the role of mobile counseling in supporting individuals on their path to recovery from addiction.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from the school’s principal, teachers, students, and various officials. The program aimed to raise awareness about substance abuse and mental health, fostering an environment where adolescents can make informed and healthier choices for their well-being.

During the session, attendees were introduced to the services available for overcoming mental health-related challenges. The discussions and presentations aimed to equip students with knowledge and resources to manage stress and avoid the pitfalls of addiction.
