Zanskar, July 04: In a proactive initiative aimed at bolstering livestock welfare and farmer awareness, the Livestock Development Officer of Zanskar, under the guidance of Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kargil, Dr. Gulzar Hussain, spearheaded a health and awareness camp at Sani Village. The event, held on Wednesday, saw active participation from local leaders, Self Help Group (SHG) members, and progressive farmers.

The camp served a dual purpose: to provide essential health care services for livestock and to educate local farmers on livestock management and departmental schemes. The program focused on raising awareness about prevalent livestock diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and brucellosis, as well as informing farmers about various government schemes like the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) and Kisan Credit Card (KCC).

During the camp, participants received valuable insights into effective livestock management practices and the benefits of departmental schemes designed to support animal husbandry efforts. The outreach also included practical support for local farmers, with 30 bags of cattle feed distributed among the progressive farmers to aid their livestock management practices.

In a gesture of commitment to the region’s economic development, two sets of carpet looms and charkhas, along with feed, were handed over to Numberdar Sani as per the assurances made by the Director of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, UT Ladakh, during his recent visit to Zanskar. This initiative aims to boost the local economy by supporting the livelihood of livestock breeders and fostering sustainable practices within the community.

Numberdar Sani expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Animal Husbandry Department Kargil for organizing such a crucial camp, highlighting its positive impact on the villagers. He commended the efforts of the department in addressing the health needs of livestock and providing essential resources for the betterment of the farming community.

The camp’s success underscores the department’s ongoing commitment to improving livestock health and supporting farmers through educational and practical measures.
