Leh, July 04: In a landmark event marking a significant stride in cultural and educational exchanges in the region, the first Changthang Nomadic Gonpa Schools Exchange Programme was unfolded at Nyoma Photang.

Organized by the Gompa schools of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) in collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, this initiative aimed to strengthen bonds among nomadic Gompa schools while enriching educational practices.

Participating in this pioneering programme were Chushul Gompa School, Nyoma Gompa School, Korzok Gompa School, and Hanley Gompa School, representing various facets of Changthang’s vibrant cultural tapestry. The exchange provided a fertile ground for students and teachers alike to share insights, experiences, and educational methodologies, thereby fostering holistic development across participating institutions.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, with Executive Councillor Tashi Namgyal Yakzee presiding as chief guest, supported by Nyoma Councillor Ishey Spalzang, Korzok Councillor Karma Namdak, and Nominated Councillor Ven Konchok Tsephel. Dr. Konchok Rigzen, from the Administrative Office of CIBS, added to the occasion as the guest of honor. Eminent resource persons such as EJM Professor Dr. Tashi Dorjey, Madam Stanzin Padma, and CIBS Lecturer Sonam Angchuk, alongside English Lecturer Dr. DK Patnaik, enriched the programme with their expertise and guidance.

Across the span of ten days, the programme featured a diverse array of workshops, cultural performances, and educational seminars. These activities were meticulously designed to deepen students’ educational journeys and cultivate a profound appreciation for their rich cultural heritage.

The resounding success of this initiative underscores its pivotal role in safeguarding and promoting the distinctive cultural traditions of the Changthang nomadic communities. By nurturing these bonds and sharing knowledge, the programme not only enriches educational practices but also strengthens the fabric of cultural unity among the region’s nomadic schools.
