Leh, July 04: In a stunning display of mountaineering prowess, a team from the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM and WS), under the leadership of Colonel Hem Chandra Singh, the Principal of the institute, has achieved a historic milestone in the Ladakh region. Over a remarkable 11-day period, the team successfully summited four of Ladakh’s major peaks, setting a new record for the fastest ascents of these challenging summits.

The expedition commenced on June 21, 2024, when the team reached the summit of Kang Yatse II, standing at an impressive 6,250 meters above sea level. Following this, they continued their ambitious journey and scaled Kang Yatse I, the higher of the two peaks, at 6,415 meters, on June 28, 2024.

Undeterred by the demanding conditions, the team went on to achieve two more significant summits: Dzo Jongo II, at 6,220 meters, and Dzo Jongo I, at 6,307 meters, on July 1, 2024. This series of successful ascents in such a short span of time marks an unprecedented achievement in the mountaineering community.

In addition to their record-setting climbs, the team made history with a pioneering snowboarding descent from the summit of Kang Yatse II. This innovative descent adds a new chapter to the adventure sports history of Ladakh, showcasing the team’s creativity and skill in extreme conditions.

Colonel Hem Chandra Singh expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishment, stating, “This expedition not only set a new record but also highlighted the exceptional capabilities of our mountaineers. Their dedication, preparation, and spirit of adventure have redefined the limits of what is possible in high-altitude mountaineering.”

The successful completion of this expedition has not only set new benchmarks for mountaineering expeditions in Ladakh but also further established JIM and WS as a leading institution in the field of mountaineering and winter sports.
