Leh, July 02: In a significant development, a delegation of outsourced employees from various departments of the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh, led by Smt. Diskit Angmo, met with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), today to address pressing issues related to their employment contracts and unpaid salaries.
Diskit informed the HLG that nobody from the office/Administration informed them that June 30, 2024 would be their last working day and they were intimated regarding this development at the very last moment. She also informed the HLG that they were not given any prior notice regarding the termination of their contract nor they were provided a copy of the contract by the outsourcing vendor/agency. She further informed that her contract was till August 2024 whereas the contracts of some other outsourced employees were till June 2024. Smt Diskit informed the HLG that the outsourcing vendor/agency should have informed them at least a month in advance regarding the termination of their contracts so that they could look for job elsewhere. She requested the HLG to extend the contract of the outsourcing employees.
The other delegates apprised the HLG of the non-payment of their salaries since March 2024. They informed the HLG that some of the outsourcing staff engaged along with them are still continuing in the department while others have been informed not to come to the office from June 1 2024 onwards.
The HLG stated that the UT Administration will work within rules and regulations and go by the norms. He also stated that fresh tender would be floated to engage outsourcing vendors/agencies so that these agencies can provide them with manpower. He further stated that these outsourced employees should reapply for the job afresh accordingly.
