  • Substandard quality of Shilikchey road; action against JE initiated

Kargil, July 01: Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Hon’ble Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Kargil, conducted a comprehensive inspection tour of Shilikchey and surrounding villages in the 13 Poyen constituency, addressing pressing community concerns and initiating several key development projects.

During his visit to Shilikchey, Dr. Akhoon scrutinized the ongoing road construction work and expressed severe dissatisfaction with the substandard quality of the project. He issued clear directives for strict action against the Junior Engineer responsible for overseeing the construction, emphasizing the need for accountability in public works to meet the required standards and serve the community’s best interests.

Dr. Akhoon’s inspection was spurred by growing local concerns about the road’s quality. In addition to addressing these issues, he met with villagers who raised several important matters, including compensation for land acquisition and the need for improved connectivity through a mobile tower. To address these concerns, Dr. Akhoon announced a grant of ₹2 lakh from his untied fund for the Tribal Women Welfare Cooperative Limited Kargil to procure essential equipment via the Horticulture Department.

The Chairman’s tour also included visits to Hunderman Broq, Hunderman Mal, and Poyen, where he tackled a wide array of local issues and announced new development initiatives. In Hunderman Broq, Dr. Akhoon addressed requests for a solar lift irrigation system, porter engagement, a special development package, heritage village restoration, and several other infrastructural needs. He revealed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a ₹28 crore road widening project is already in progress and promised to explore the Sakarila link road for potential tourism opportunities.

Dr. Akhoon assured the villagers that he would advocate for their demands including the installation of a solar submersible pump, a Primary Health Center (PHC), a mobile tower, and the development of a children’s park and handicrafts center in Hunderman Mal. He committed to addressing these needs through relevant departments and the National Health Mission (NHM) scheme.

At the Govt Model Middle School Shilikchey, Dr. Akhoon addressed issues such as teacher shortages, classroom waterproofing, and the need for additional facilities. He announced a ₹5 lakh grant from the untied fund for plaster work and pledged to resolve all educational concerns with a focus on improving the school’s infrastructure.

In Poyen, Dr. Akhoon responded to requests for link roads, upgrading the high school to a higher secondary school, and establishing a library and sports facilities. He allocated ₹2 lakh from the untied grant for ICT and sports equipment and committed to transforming Poyen High School into a model institution. Additionally, he sanctioned the old hospital as an Urban PHC to benefit the town and its periphery.

Throughout his tour, Dr. Akhoon was accompanied by a team of senior officials including Executive Councillor RDD Er. Punchok Tashi, Councillor Mohd Amin, SE PWD, SE PHE I&FC, Chief Education Officer Kargil, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, and other concerned officers.
