Kargil, June 30: Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, convened a crucial meeting at the Council Secretariat today to discuss and finalize the arrangements for the upcoming Muharram processions and congregations in the district. The meeting brought together a wide array of stakeholders, including government officials, medical professionals, and representatives from religious organizations.

The primary focus of the meeting was to ensure that all necessary preparations are in place for the smooth and safe conduct of Muharram events. Dr. Akhoon outlined a comprehensive plan addressing various aspects of the arrangements, emphasizing the need for coordination among different departments and entities involved.

Dr. Akhoon directed the Public Works Department (PDD) and the Public Health Engineering (PHE) departments to ensure uninterrupted water and power supply during the Muharram period. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kargil was instructed to establish an additional medical camp at Yaxi Stand Ground floor to handle any emergencies that may arise during the processions. This move aims to bolster the medical infrastructure and ensure timely medical assistance for all participants.

The CEC emphasized the importance of effective traffic management and directed the police to maintain law and order throughout the Muharram events. Additionally, the police were asked to hold a follow-up meeting with volunteers to mobilize support for the processions.

Dr. Akhoon underscored the need for thorough sanitization of congregation areas and the provision of polythene bags for volunteers and those serving refreshments to maintain hygiene and cleanliness during the events.

The CEC stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure all arrangements are completed on time. He also proposed that the Municipal Committee Kargil should felicitate the MC workers after the successful conclusion of Muharram as a token of appreciation for their dedicated efforts.

Dr. Akhoon assured all possible moral and financial support from the Council and district administration to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Muharram events.

The meeting also included discussions with representatives from religious organizations, including AJUIAK and IKMT. The CEC acknowledged their suggestions, including the Muharram Package, and assured that all constructive inputs would be acted upon.

Deputy Commissioner Kargil expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their contributions to last year’s preparations and expressed hope for continued cooperation. He assured that efforts will be made to enhance the arrangements compared to the previous year.
