Kargil, June 28: On the second day of his tour in the Durbuk block, Joint Director of the Sheep Husbandry Department, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, visited several Sheep Extension Centers (SECs) in Merak, Phobrang, Kargyam, and Tharuk to review records and engage with local breeders.

During his visit, Dr. Hussain interacted with breeders from the villages of Chushul and Kargyam, focusing on strategies to enhance the year-round sales of pashmina and mutton. He praised the breeders for their dedication to improving profits by adding value to these livestock products.

Dr. Hussain also inspected kidding pens that were constructed under a special development package across various villages in the Durbuk block. He expressed satisfaction with the positive impact these installations had on the breeders and gathered feedback regarding the design and utility of the pens.

Additionally, the Joint Director conducted thorough inspections of various infrastructure components, including a solarised community hall established for skill development and livestock sheds. He engaged in productive discussions with the Ama Tsogspa (women alliance group) on enhancing the value of pashmina through additional processing techniques.

The visit highlighted the commitment of the Sheep Husbandry Department to support local breeders and improve the infrastructure and resources available to them. Dr. Hussain’s engagement with the community underscored the importance of continuous development and innovation in the livestock sector.
