Leh, June 27: A delegation of outsourced pharmacists from Kargil engaged under the National Health Mission (NHM) met with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), today at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. The delegation, led by Shri Syed Sadiq, highlighted their concerns regarding the termination of their contracts scheduled by the end of June. Accompanying the Lieutenant Governor were Commissioner/Secretary, Health, Dr. Vasanthakumar N, IAS, and Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Shri L Franklin, IAS.
Shri Sadiq informed the HLG that they had been employed as pharmacists under NHM since 2019, receiving a monthly salary of Rs. 15,000. He conveyed the notification from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Office regarding the conclusion of their contracts and appealed for an extension.
In response, the HLG acknowledged the impending end of contracts for outsourced employees across various departments of UT Ladakh. He emphasized the initiation of a transparent process to engage vendors who would subsequently hire outsourced staff, ensuring fair opportunities for all eligible candidates. The Lieutenant Governor assured that the selection process would prioritize competence and suitability for the roles.
Simultaneously, Principal of Government Higher Secondary School, Bogdang, Smt. Mepham Tsomo, also met with the HLG at the Secretariat. She was accompanied by Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Shri Sanjiv Khirwar, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Shri L Franklin, IAS, and Director, School Education Department, Shri Tsering Paldan, JKAS.
During the meeting, Smt. Tsomo discussed the posting of her husband, Shri Jigmat Namgail, who currently serves as a lecturer at Government Higher Secondary School, Akchamal in Kargil. In response, the HLG assured that all transfers within the School Education Department would adhere strictly to legal procedures.
The interactions underscored ongoing efforts by the administration to manage workforce transitions and ensure procedural fairness in employment practices across UT Ladakh.
