Leh, June 26: In a significant effort to educate young minds on the crucial issues of child sexual abuse and personal safety, the Women Police Station Leh, in collaboration with the Special Cell for Women, conducted an awareness program at Moravian Mission School, Leh. The program aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and understand their rights.

Inspector Kunzang Dolma, Station House Officer (SHO) of Women Police Station Leh, co-facilitated the session alongside a social worker. The program engaged approximately 120 students from 2nd to 5th standard, along with their teachers and school staff.

The awareness session included a screening of the film ‘Komal’ by Childline, which effectively addressed critical topics such as safe and unsafe touch, the privacy of body parts, individual rights, grooming, and appropriate responses in uncomfortable or dangerous situations. The interactive nature of the program encouraged students to actively participate and ask questions, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Inspector Kunzang Dolma emphasized the importance of such educational initiatives, stating, “Empowering children with the right knowledge and tools to protect themselves is a vital step in preventing child sexual abuse. Programs like these help in building a safer environment for our children.”

Teachers and staff of Moravian Mission School expressed their appreciation for the initiative, acknowledging the importance of early education in personal safety and the role it plays in safeguarding the well-being of students.

The Women Police Station Leh, along with the Special Cell for Women, plans to continue conducting similar programs in other schools and communities to raise awareness and empower children across the region.
