Leh, June 26: The District Police Leh responding swiftly to a viral video showcasing reckless driving on the Hunder sand dunes today registered a First Information Report (FIR) No. 08/2024. The incident has sparked widespread concern and criticism, highlighting the fragility of the region’s environment.
The FIR, filed under sections 290 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), addresses the negligent and dangerous driving captured in the video. The primary vehicle involved, a Toyota Fortuner bearing registration number HR26DR-0077, has been identified. Additionally, efforts are underway to identify and locate another unidentified vehicle seen in the footage.
The reckless maneuvers depicted in the video not only endangered the lives of those involved but also posed a significant threat to the delicate ecosystem of Hunder, a popular tourist destination in Nubra Valley known for its unique sand dunes.
In response, the District Police Leh has issued a stern reminder to all tourists and visitors to exercise responsibility and respect local regulations. A police spokesperson emphasized, “The natural beauty of Ladakh is a shared heritage, and it is our collective duty to preserve it for future generations.”
