KARGIL: In view of the unique geographical challenges of the region, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Tuesday urged Lieutenant Governor Ladakh, Brigadier (Retd) Dr B D Mishra for initiating the special flights, specifically IL-76 & C-130 aircraft.
These flights, when in operation, will go a long way to facilitate the seamless airlift of passengers and students from Srinagar and Jammu to Ladakh, the CEC said.
Besides, various other developmental issues vital for the progress of Ladakh were also discussed in the meeting held in New Delhi, where both LG Mishra and CEC Akhoon are camping presently.
“In a significant development meeting, Chairman and CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today engaged in constructive talks with Lieutenant Governor Ladakh, Brig. (Retd) Dr. B.D. Mishra,” an official handout from LAHDC Kargil said.
It said that the primary focus of the discussion centered on the urgent need for special flights, specifically IL-76 & C-130 aircraft, to facilitate the seamless airlift of passengers and students from Srinagar & Jammu to Ladakh.
Dr Jaffer highlighted the critical importance of these special flights in ensuring the timely and safe transportation of individuals to Ladakh, considering the unique geographical challenges of the region.
“The IL-76 & C-130 aircraft were specifically identified for their suitability to meet these transport requirements,” the CEC told LG Mishra.
Beyond the airlift initiative, the CEC and Lieutenant Governor engaged in a comprehensive discussion on various developmental issues vital for the progress of Ladakh,” the handout said.
Meanwhile, Akhoon said that a number of developmental issues were discussed with LG Mishra.
“I am thankful to the HLG for giving a patient hearing pertaining to the developmental issues related to Kargil,” the Chief Executive Councillor wrote on X.
