Kargil, 11: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon the other day attended the concluding ceremony of the 15th CEC Ice Hockey Cup organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports Kargil at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Biamathang, Kargil.
Drass Warriors lifted the 15th CEC Ice Hockey Cup by beating Royal Shakar Chiktan with a margin of 7-0 goals.
The CEC congratulated the winner and runner up team for displaying exemplary sporting skills throughout the tournament. He also congratulated all participating teams and the organizing department for the successful conduct of the tournament.
CEC Dr Jaffer expressed hope that winter sports will further achieve new heights in the district considering the infrastructure expansion and hopefully athletes will perform their best in the national and international events in future.
CEC Dr Jaffer assured that winter sports infrastructure will be boosted in all blocks by construction of more Ice Hockey rinks and in this regard, maximum provision for funding will be explored in the coming financial year under District Capex.
He also expressed hope that UT Administration will continue their support in strengthening sports infrastructure in Kargil by providing more logistic support to the athletes.
In his address, the CEC thanked the Union Government, Honourable Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh and UT Administration for allocating the exam centre for UPSC exams in Kargil district.
Earlier, DYSSO Kargil, Abid Ali briefed about the conduct of the tournament and added that 36 teams including four women teams across the district participated in the tournament. Pertinently, the Women Trophy was lifted by Bodhkarbo by winning over Wakha Mulbekh.
Later, the CEC and other dignitaries felicitated the winners and runner up team with trophies and certificates. The event was attended by Councillors of LAHDC, District Officers, concerned officers and a large gathering of sports enthusiasts.
