14th National Voters’ Day 2024 celebrated across Kargil district

Kargil, Jan 25: District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse today attended the celebration of 14th National Voters’ Day (NVD) 2024 as chief guest here at SMM Auditorium Hall, Kargil.
On the occasion, Chief Engineer, I&FC, Maqbool Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Mohd Sharif Kakpori, CMO, Dr Kacho Liyaqat Ali, Divisional Forest Officer, Sheep Husbandry Officer, Deputy District Election Officer, District Social Welfare Officer and other district officers attended the event.
On the occasion, the District Election Officer launched the Election Commission of India’s song in Purgi language which is translated by Purgi language expert Mohd Issa Sabiri, sung by Mindok Tsar Dramatic Club and produced by Ladakh Planet Production House.
Master Mohammad Ali gave a brief training and awareness about the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) clearing the doubts raised on manipulation of the EVM.
Addressing the audience, the Deputy Commissioner said that the celebration of National Voters’ Day is aimed to promote a free and fair election process without being influenced by social, race, economic and religious status.
He further emphasised on full proof formation of the voter list. The DC said the ECI has taken all the possible measures to upgrade the EVM to ensure transparency and free and fair election process.
The Deputy Commissioner, CE I&FC and ACR distributed voter ID cards among the first time voters.
The participants took pledge that stated: “We, the citizens of India having abiding faith in democracy, hereby pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement”.
The DC also distributed cash prizes and momentous among the winners of quiz competition conducted by SVEEP Kargil, Ladakh.
Different departments in Kargil also celebrated the National Voters’ Day (NVD) and took the NVD pledge.
Similar events were also held in all Sub Divisions and in Tehsil Offices across the district.
In Zanskar, the NVD celebration was held at Tourist Dak Bunglow Padum where Area Development Officer/SDM Zanskar, Romil Singh Donk was chief guest. Assistant Electoral Officer Naib Tehsildar Zanskar, Mohd Hassan, Station House Officer, Stanzin Gyaltsen, BDO, BMO and other Sub Divisional officers also attended the event.
A quiz Competition was also organized by the AERO in which students of Government Model Degree College, Govt. Higher Secondary School Phey and Govt. High School Karsha, Govt. High School Zangla and Govt. High School Tungri participated.
Govt. High School Tungri won the 1st position, Govt. Model Degree College Zanskar won 2nd position and Govt. Higher Secondary School Phey won the 3rd position.
Appreciation certificates were also presented to the booth level officer for their outstanding performance by the hand of chief guest and other guests. Prizes for the participants in the quiz competition were also distributed by the chief guest.
Similarly, the National Voter’s Day was also celebrated in Drass Sub Division where SDM Drass Vishal Atri addressed the general public at Tehsil Office and SDM Office. Later, the SDM interacted with students of HSS Drass and informed them about the importance of the right to vote. He also ensured to enrol every individual above 18 years if not enrolled in electoral roll. The event concluded with an oath taking ceremony.
The theme for National Voter’s Day 2024 is ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For sure’ is a continuation from last year’s theme.
