Leh, Jan 25: The 14th National Voters Day, 2024 was celebrated in the Tehsil Durbuk at Conference Hall Tangtse today on January 25.
Tehsildar Durbuk, Assistant Electoral Registration officer (AERO) added that the annual observance aims to promote the importance of democratic values, encourage voter education, and celebrate the strength of democratic system.
He informed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) have launched nationwide campaigns to educate voters about the electoral process, registration procedures, and the importance of informed voting. Further, he added that Special voter registration drives were conducted to enroll eligible voters.
The event also focused on initiatives to be undertaken to engage the youth, promoting their participation as first-time voters and encouraging them to exercise their franchise. Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) was distributed to newly registered voters.
Boot level officers (BLOs) who have done exemplary work during the special summary revision were felicitated during the event.
Later, Voters Day Pledge was taken on the event by the participants. Voters, public and officials from different departments participated in the event.
