Kargil, Jan 04: The Ice Hockey Rink was inaugurated today at Yakza Mohalla Umba in presence of Assistant Commissioner Development Kargil, Ghulam Mohd, Executive Engineer REW Shabir Husain, Chairman Block Development Council Sankoo, Gh. Mehdi Akhon, BDO Sankoo, Kaneez Fatima, Sarpanch, Nambardar, officials of RD&PRD, senior citizens of villages, players and children were on the occasion.Emphasizing the significance of physical education, ACD Kargil commended the concerned stakeholders for constructing the rink under MG-NREGA 2023-24, with an estimated cost of Rs 13.00 lakh.
He also highlighted the scope and role ice hockey as a winter game in the Ladakh region especially in Kargil villages which may create employment opportunities in future.
The ACD promised for the extension of ground under the RD&PRD scheme in coming years. BDC Chairman, Gh. Mehdi Akhon also promised to provide funds for the construction of the changing room under grant-in-aid of his constituency fund for 2024-25. On the occasion, a final match was played between the teams of the villages in particular.
