Leh, Dec 27: The district police Leh issued a cyber-crime alert to the general public related to the fraudulent whatsapp messages related to traffic challans being circulated by fraudsters.
Leh police has warned general public to not to fall prey to these scammers by avoiding responding to messages and don’t click on suspicious links. The Police has also advised people to report such activities.
In an advisory, Leh district police said, “Scammers are impersonating Ladakh Police on WhatsApp, claiming you’ve received a fake traffic challan. Avoid responding to messages. Stay vigilant, don’t click on suspicious links, and report such activities.”
In an advisory, district police said, “It has come to our attention that scammers are targeting individuals through WhatsApp by sending fake text messages impersonating Ladakh Police. These fraudulent messages claim that you have been issued a traffic challan. Please be aware that these messages are not from the traffic Police department.
In order to confirm your identity, the scammers may send you an .apk file to download the App called “vahan parivahan.” We strongly advise the general public not to respond to such messages received on WhatsApp or any other social media platform. It is crucial to avoid clicking on any direct links provided.
Instead, we urge you to visit the Police Office in person for any inquiries or concerns related to traffic challans. Please stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.”
