Leh, Dec 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Leh under the projects DST STI HUB on Changthangi Sheep and Goat and AICRP-CG conducted a seven days scientific tour with effect from 19th December 2023 to 25th December 2023 headed by Dr Feroz Din Sheikh (Principle Investigator).
During the tour programme, the team visited Nidder, Samad, Chumathang, Koyul and Hanle villages where, improvised Pashmina combs, AlIflex Tags and other inventories were distributed among the nomads of all these villages.
Training programme on scientific management of sheep and goats under Cold Arid Conditions of Ladakh was also conducted in all these five villages. The Village heads thanked the scientific team of SKUAST-K for undertaking such tours to the far flung villages of Changthang for several years especially during winters when they face problems of Health management of their livestock due to unavailability of medicines on time apart from facing harsh climatic conditions.
They presented accolades for the scientific intervention of DST and AICRP team for their dedicated works for the benefits of the nomadic herders.
With the worrying transformation of habitat, climate and lifestyle change underway in the high altitude plateau of the Changpa nomads, the projects like DST and AICRP on Changthangi goats dedicated to improve the Pashmina fibre production and Changrthangi sheep production in a scientific way by latest technological interventions, health improvement and pasture development.
