Srinagar, Dec 26: Dense fog engulfs Srinagar and other parts of the valley as Kashmir shivers under freezing cold, with Konibal recorded at -6.0?C and Pahalgam at 4.7?C on Tuesday.
Several parts of south Kashmir recorded the coldest temperature on Tuesday, including Konibal (-6.0?C), Shopian (-5.1?C), Pulwama (-5.0?C), and Anantnag (-4.2?C).
Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley were engulfed with a thick layer of fog that reduced visibility, causing inconvenience to commuters. Vehicles had to keep on their head lights while moving on the roads in Srinagar.
Amid dense fog, the traffic department issued an advisory urging vehicle drivers to “stick to your lane, which reduces the risks of going off the road or crashing into another vehicle.”.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecasts dry weather with no significant activity until December.
Outlook During January 1?3, 2024, the weather will remain generally cloudy, with light rain and snow in scattered places.
The mercury dipped in Srinagar on Tuesday and recorded a low of -3-0?C against the -2.3?C recorded on Monday. It was 1.0?C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
The maximum temperature recorded was 1.0?C above the normal of 8.6?C, against 9.6?C in Srinagar on Monday.
The minimum temperature at Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway plummeted to -3.0?C against the -2.6?C recorded the previous night, while Kokernag had a low of -2.0?C against the -1.6?C recorded on Monday.
Pahalgam remained the coldest place in Kashmir Valley, with minimum temperatures plummeting to -4.7?C on Tuesday against -4.3?C recorded on Monday night. It was, however, 0.3?C above normal for the tourist hot spot in south Kashmir.
The temperature further improved at Gulmarg and was recorded at -2.4?C against the -2.6?C recorded a day ago, and it was 3.4?C above normal for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir.
The mercury at Kupwara slipped down to -3.5?C against -3.2?C on Monday night. It was 0.9?C below normal for the north Kashmir district, the MeT office said.
