Srinagar, Dec 26: National Conference President and member of Parliament Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday warned that Jammu and Kashmir could meet the same fate as Gaza if a solution is not found through dialogue.
He said that India must initiate dialogue with its neighbour Pakistan to resolve the matters.
“If we do not find a solution through dialogue, we will meet the same fate as Gaza and Palestine, which are being bombed by Israel,…”, Farooq warned.
Talking to media persons in Srinagar, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister referred to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s statement that “we can change our friends but not our neighbours.”
He said that Prime Minister Nardendra Modi said that war is not an option now and the matters should be resolved through dialogue.
“ Where is the dialogue?”, Farooq questioned.
The Lok Sabha MP said Nawaz Sharif is about to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
“…Now Nawaz Sharif is going to be the PM of Pakistan and he has been saying at top of his voice that they are ready for talks, but what is the reason why we are not you ready to talk?” Abdullah said.
He also dismissed BJP claims about the end of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir pointing to contradicting statements made by the Home Minister.
The NC President said that militancy is on the rise, with trained militancy entering unchecked and innocent people becoming targets.
On the recent deaths of three civilians in Poonch district, Abdullah said the attaching of army officers would not resolve the issue . He called for an investigation into the “torture” and questioning why innocent people were subjected to such treatment.
“If innocent people who have nothing to do with terrorism are killed, which India are we living in?” he asked. “Is this the Mahatma Gandhi’s India where we can live in peace? The hatred has spread so much that Hindus and Muslims think they are enemies of each other.”
