Kargil, Dec 18: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today chaired a meeting with Commissioner Secretary, Tourism, Kacho Mehboob Khan, addressing issues related to land demarcation for Svadesh Darshan 2.0 and broader tourism concerns.
Executive Councillor, Tourism, Kacho Mohd Feroz, CEO, KDA, Abdul Gaffar Zargar, Tehsildar Kargil, Kacho Asgar Ali, BDC Pashkum, Assistant Director, Tourism, Aga Syed Toha, Lieutenant Colonel, OC,55 RCC, Divyenkitr Nainwal, OSD to CS, Mohd Ali Tak, Officials from 762BRTF, President, Friends Pashkum Association, Sadiq Ali and former president Friends Pashkum Association Zakir Hussain attended the meeting.
The Commissioner Secretary highlighted the identification of 55 destinations under Svadesh Darshan 2.0 and outlined significant tourism projects, including the Sangam Tourist Viewpoint and Multi-Storey Car Parking.
During the meeting, instructions were issued for the expedited demarcation of land along the riverside of Sangam, with a strict timeline of 10 days to address any outstanding issues.
Dr Jaffer emphasized the need to explore historical sites and the flora and fauna of Sagrah village, steering the focus towards establishing Kargil as a premier tourist destination beyond its wartime history.
An agreement is set to be formalized through MoU with Pashkum villagers, facilitating the use of the Linkipal Ski Slope for grazing during the summer season.
The CEC urged the Tourism Department Kargil to submit a comprehensive report on achievements from 2019 to date.
The CEC stressed the importance of timely and coordinated efforts, highlighting Kargil’s cultural and historical significance.
The meeting also called for a review of homestay policies and proposed making Ladakh Resident Certificate or Permanent Resident Certificate mandatory.
Winter tourism was a key focus, particularly in Drass, with an emphasis on making all tourism assets winter-friendly. The CEC directed EC Tourism to conduct a review meeting, considering the perspectives of Baroo-Poyen-town, Urban, Municipal, Executive Engineer R&B. EC Tourism also directed for land demarcation of Ski lift chair cum Gondola in Zanskar.
The CEC stressed on beautification of Kargil and strategies to generate employment, showcasing a commitment for the development and preservation of the region’s unique heritage.
