Kargil, Nov 24: Training on visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) for screening of cervical cancer was organised for CHOs, ANMs and BHWs by the Block Medical Officer Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo, Kargil on Friday at Conference Hall.
Dr Nasreen Fatima Gynaecologist Obstetrician of Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo were the resource person.
During Course of the training Dr Nasreen Fatima gave a detailed presentation on normal anatomy of the Cervix followed by the visual inspection with acetic acid procedure.
Further, she also provided a live screening demonstration allowing participants to observe and learn the procedure.
During the demonstration, Dr Nasreen Fatima explained the procedure step-by-step, highlighting the key areas to observe and how to interpret the results.
Cervical Cancer is the second most common cancer in India after Breast Cancer. The current estimates indicate 67500 deaths annually in India which accounts for 1/5th of global deaths from cervical cancer.
The common signs & symptoms usually ignored by the women are bleeding between periods, menstrual periods longer, post-menopausal bleeding etc as most of the cases detected are in the 3rd and 4th stage of the disease.
The participants also expressed satisfaction for the experience they have in this training, conducted by the Block Medical Officer Community Health Centre Sankoo.
