Jt Director YSS inaugurates 3rd Edition of LG Horse Polo Cup at Drass

 Kargil, Oct 20: Joint Director, Youth Service and Sports, UT Ladakh, Moses Kunzang today inaugurated the 3rd edition of LG Horse Polo Cup 2023 at Horse Polo Stadium Goshan, Drass where he was the chief guest.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani, Incharge SDM Drass, Rehmatullah Bhat, BDC Drass, Noor Mohammad, BDC Bhimbatt Najma Bano, other district officers, students and team players attended the inaugural function.
In his address, the Chief Guest congratulated all the 12 participating teams, especially the women teams who are participating in the championship.
He stated that traditional Horse Polo as a game involves a lot of vigour and physical activity and needs to be promoted among the youth of UT Ladakh.
The Joint Director said that this tournament is now a permanent event in the sports calendar every year and polo teams should practice regularly to win the trophy.


Referring to Horse Polo Stadium Drass, he said it is one of the best polo grounds in Ladakh. He informed that the construction of other sports infrastructure like Ice Hockey Rink, Indore Stadium and skiing infrastructure will be completed in near future in Drass whic is becoming a sports hub.
The Joint Director hoped that the event will continue in future with the participation of national and international teams which will attract tourists and help boost local economy.
He also congratulated the players from Leh and Kargil districts and organizing committees for their efforts in ensuring successful conduct of the 3rd LG Horse Polo Cup at Drass.
Lastly, he said it is for the first time that women are participating in the Horse Polo Cup thereby making this championship more interesting. He mentioned that Women polo players were trained in Delhi on the intervention of Hon’ble LG Ladakh.
The artists presented colourful cultural programs during the occasion. Pertinently, teams from different parts of Ladakh including Drass, Chuchot, besides teams of the Animal Husbandry Department are participating in the 5-day tournament.
