Srinagar, Oct 06: Almost a fortnight after Corporator of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Aqib Ahmed Renzu was arrested in alleged sexual harassment case, the J&K government has booked him under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).
The PSA allows detention without trial for up to two years.
Police said the Corporator has been lodged in Kot Balwal jail, Jammu.
Srinagar police took to micro blogging site X and said the Corportaor has seven FIRs against him in different police stations of Srinagar and the offences range from rioting, assault, blackmail, sexual harassment and outraging modesty.
“SMC corporator Aqib Ahmed Renzu S/o Bilal Ahmed Renzu booked under PSA & has been lodged in Kot Balwal jail, Jammu. He has 7 FIRs against him in different police stations of Srinagar, the offences range from rioting, assault, blackmail, sexual harassment, outraging modesty etc,” Srinagar police said on Friday in a post on X.
Aqib Renzu, was arrested on September 23 in connection with an alleged sexual harassment, outraging modesty, and online stalking case. Police had said that the arrest followed after the victim provided substantial technical evidence in the matter.
