Kargil, Sep 16: World Ozone Day on the theme of Montreal protocol fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change was celebrated at Government Model Degree College Zanskar. The event was organized by the college in collaboration with Forest Department Zanskar.
A painting and debate competition was also diligently arranged, with enthusiastic participation from students of GMDC Zanskar and Duzing Photang School. These talented students eloquently emphasized the significance of addressing the adverse effects on human life during this era of climate change.
Mohd Ilayees, Range Officer was present as chief guest on the occasion. While addressing the students and faculty members of the college, he urged them to protect the environment for future generations.
In this regard, the Forest Department of Zanskar has devised a visionary plan to plant a staggering 1.80 lakh saplings in the Subdivision during the upcoming year.
Dr. Abid Hussain, the In-charge Principal, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Forest Department for their invaluable collaboration, which contributed significantly to the successful execution of the program.
He also commended the speakers who enlightened the audience on the subject of ozone and applauded the talented participants of the painting competition. Furthermore, all participants solemnly took a pledge to protect and preserve the environment.
To conclude the event, prizes were ceremoniously distributed among the participants of the painting and debate competitions by distinguished guests and the college principal.
