LEH: The Ladakh Tourist Trade Alliance (LTTA), an amalgam of several trade unions of the union territory, announced that it will launch a non-cooperation movement after July 15 against the non-local businessmen of Ladakh, who want to establish businesses in the tourism and allied sector in Ladakh.
The LTTA also warned a certain businessman who is in the process of setting up at hotel in the union territory, besides urging the Ladakhis to stop dealing with any such project, while claiming that the LTTA have the support religious organisations and political groups of the region.
“No partnerships or construction will be allowed after July 15,” LTTA president PT Kunzang said, while addressing a press conference in Leh.
“We held several press conferences earlier, while our religious bodies set a two month deadline for the outsiders to cease funding projects in Ladakh. Those who have leased out their properties or intend to run any sort of business in partnership will not be allowed to ruin our only source of income,” he said.
“A non-cooperation movement will be launched after July 15 and all those intending to set businesses in Ladakh will be opposed tooth and nail,” he said.
It’s not local vs nonlocal but we cannot allow anyone to snatch our bread and butter. Tourism is the only source of income for the whole of Ladakh, he added.
LTTA also warned a prominent hotelier Kapil Chopra to stop construction of Post Card in Ladakh, saying only locals of Ladakh will be allowed to establish business in the UT.
“Kapil Chopra is a big name in the hotel industry having hotels in four major international cities, but we would like to warn him to stop construction forthwith. We would also like to warn all those having leased out their land to Chopra or intend to be his partners to cease their plans as LTTA will not allow any construction in Ladakh,” he said.
The LTTA in the past also has opposed the businesses run by non-natives in Ladakh.
In 2021, it had passed a resolution to oppose investment by outsiders in the tourism sector of the Union territory, and threatened imposition of “restrictions” on such investors.
