Jammu: As Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra begins on Friday amid tight security, the security cameras installed at some vital installations in Jammu city have reportedly gone missing.
As per the details available with The Earth News, the security cameras installed outside the Jammu railway station, where there is heavy influx of the pilgrims for the Shri Amarnath Yatra, have been missing for the past many days.
“This camera was removed by some people a few days ago, who upon inquiring informed us that they are removing the camera as it was not working efficiently,” said Raman Singh, the owner of a Dhaba outside the Jammu railway station.
The persons removing the camera told us that they are workers of a private company, responsible for the working of these cameras efficiently and will reinstall the camera after repairing it, but despite the passage of many days, they did not come back, Singh told this scribe.
It may be mentioned here that some days ago, the thieves stole some batteries and the chargers from a shop at the same location, even in the presence of heavy deployment of security personnel for the safe passage of the passengers as well as the pilgrims outside the Jammu Railway Station.
Not just railway station, the security camera installed outside the Police Head Quarters, near Jammu University road has also gone missing.
Talking to the Earth News, the Chief Security Officer, deployed at police headquarters, informed that the camera ‘might have been removed’ during the duty hours of other security personnel working in shifts.
“Since that camera was installed inside the park, maintained by the floriculture department, it is the duty of officials concerned to take care of this camera as it did not come into our jurisdiction,” he said, shifting the blame.
Meanwhile, repeated attempts made by The Earth News to get in touch with the SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli failed as he didn’t receive phone calls made by this scribe on his personal mobile number.
