LEH: Asserting that the research prowess of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) units and research stations based in Leh are hugely beneficial for the people of the region, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh, Tashi Gyalson has called for continuing its functionalities and operations in Leh.
Gyalson chaired a meeting with the officials of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) New Delhi, as well as representatives from SKUAST-K and SKUAST Leh.
The meeting aimed to address the operations and functionalities of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra units and research stations based in Leh, and to discuss future plans for Ladakh.
During the meeting, CEC Gyalson emphasised the importance of maintaining the existing functionalities and operations of KVKs and research stations in Leh.
“Until a major apportionment is undertaken for Ladakh in the future, the current systems should remain in place,” he said.
“This approach would ensure continuity and stability in agricultural research and extension services in the region,” added the CEC.
The officials from ICAR and SKUAST-K positively took note of the discussions and suggestions put forth by CEC Gyalson, said an official spokesperson.
They expressed their appreciation for his vision and commitment to the agricultural development of Ladakh. Moreover, they assured the Hill Council, Leh of their full cooperation and support in implementing the proposed measures.
Executive Councillor for Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel, and Executive Councillor for Horticulture, Ghulam Mehdi were present during the meeting.
Deputy Director General (Agriculture Extension) ICAR New Delhi, Dr Udham Singh Gautam; Director ICAR-ATARI, Dr Parvender Shoeran; Director Extension, SKUAST K, Prof (Dr) Din Mohd Makhduni; Associate Director SKUAST-K Leh, Dr Dorjey Namgyal; Head KVK Leh, Dr Feroz, along with other concerned professors also attended the meeting.
