PAHALGAM: An elderly tourist from Dehradun area of Uttarakhand was charred to death while four employees were injured on Monday after a hotel was gutted in a blaze at Pahalgam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
An official informed that fire damaged a hotel in Pahalgam area today, during which an elderly tourist staying with her family there went missing while four employees of the hotel received injuries while dousing the flames.
He said soon after flames were doused off, the charred body of Bhupinder Gill (75) of Dehradun was found inside the hotel after hectic efforts put in by 3 Rashtriya Rifles while further proceedings in this regard have been taken up.
Injured employees of the hotel were identified as Mehraan parry (25) resident of Seer Anantnag, Yasir Ahmad (24) resident of Katsoo Bijbehara, Naveed Ahmad Lone (20) resident of Pahalgam and Tariq Ahmad Bhat (27) resident of Laripora Pahalgam.
The official said that three employees have been already discharged from the hospital while another is undergoing treatment.
They said the cause of fire is being ascertained while further investigation has been taken up.
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has expressed shock and grief over the loss of a life in an unfortunate fire incident at a hotel in Pahalgam.
“Deeply anguished by the loss of a life due to unfortunate fire incident at a hotel in Pahalgam. My heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family. I have instructed the Deputy Commissioner to render all necessary assistance to the family,” said the Lt Governor.
