LEH: Additional Director General of Police, and chief of Ladakh police Satish S Khandare on Saturday visited the District Jail Leh where he interacted with the jail staff and the CRPF personnel deployed for security of the Prison.
Khandare, who is also holding the charge of Head of Prisons, Ladakh, inaugurated a newly installed security Access Point building and bag Scanner X-Ray Machine within Jail Campus.
Khandare was accompanied by Stanzin Norboo, AIG (Personnel), Stanzin Losal, SSP CID UT Ladakh. Sonam Dechen, AIG (Prov) PHQ UT Ladakh, Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, SP Traffic and Additional SP Leh, Pradeep Singh, SP UTDRF and Fire and Emergency Services UT Ladakh and other senior police officers of the UT Police Ladakh.
Superintendent Jail Leh, DySP Tundup Dorjay presented an account of the achievements over the period, especially in terms of correctional measures.
“Under the directions and guidance of ADGP and Stanzin Norboo, SSP (Supervisory Officer of District Jail Leh), various initiatives were taken for the upgradation of infrastructure and other amenities of the Jail inmates under rules. The existing Hospital of the Jail has been embellished with necessary medical equipment. Vocational training tools in trades like plumbing, Electrician and carpentry have been procured and displayed to the visiting dignitary,” the ADGP was apprised.
For mental and psychological wellbeing of inmates, recreational items like projector, TV etc have been provided. Likewise, for physical fitness, sport items like, table tennis, carom board, badminton Volley ball and cricket items were also procured and supplied to the inmates.
As a part of reformation and rehabilitations, a computer course was conducted within the premises of District Jail Leh and certificates to the qualified inmates appeared in the examination conducted by national institute of education and technology (NIELIT LEH) at the hands of ADGP.
Superintendent Jail also apprised the ADGP regarding initiatives taken to enrolled inmates with IGNOU for higher studies, whose academic sessions disrupted on account of involvement and incarceration.
Pipping up ceremony of two officers of District Jail Leh, Sonam Wangdus and Zayaudin, as Assistant Superintendent, whose promotion orders were issued recently from Prison HQs UT Ladakh were also carried out at the august hands of Head of Prison UT Ladakh and other officers.
Later all ranks of Prison Department UT Ladakh bid adieu to the ADGP upon his transfer from UT Ladakh by presenting a momento.
