Leh: The National Book Trust (NBT), of the Ministry of Education, GoI is for the first time, organising a book fair in Leh from 12th to 16th July 2023, in collaboration with the Administration of UT Ladakh.

In this regard, Divisional Commissioner Saugat Biswas chaired a meeting with concerned officials of the UT Administration and NBT to discuss preparations and measures for its smooth and successful conduct.

The five-day event will be held at Indoor Stadium, Leh, and will witness participation by publishers with publications for all age groups, with special activities and workshops for children such as creative writing, poster making, storytelling, interactions with authors, etc.

Apart from discussions pertaining to amenities such as drinking water, washroom facilities, power, parking, on-site medical team, fire, and safety, discussions took place on ensuring the active participation of Ladakhi writers, scholars, illustrators, creative artists, publishers, academicians, etc. The Divisional Commissioner directed NBT to ensure designating one stall each for Leh and Kargil and urged the concerned Department to ensure the display of quality publications.

It was also requested of NBT to include books on competitive examinations, especially for the benefit of Ladakhi students appearing for such exams.

Further, Biswas directed the concerned department for the robust promotion of the fair through different publicity channels to ensure maximum participation, especially that of school students. Biswas also gave directions for providing public transportation for participating schools and other institutes, thus making their visit safe and convenient.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Leh Srikanth Suse, officials from NBT, Deputy Secretary Rigzin Spalgon, SP Traffic Police Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, AD Information Dr. Tundup Namgyal and other concerned officials.
